SUGA's secret feat: a 12-kilometer race between two BTS concerts
May 2026

Some BTS stories sound like fandom fabrications right up until the results show up to confirm they actually happened. One of the best from 2026 belongs to SUGA, who decided to squeeze one more activity into his schedule in the middle of the ARIRANG tour: a 12-kilometer race.
BTS had three sold-out shows at Stanford Stadium in May, on the 16th, 17th, and 19th. The morning after the first concert, SUGA headed to San Francisco and joined the Bay to Breakers race, one of the city's best-known traditions, running since 1912. After running across the city from the bay to the Pacific coast, he headed back to Stanford and was back on stage with BTS that same evening.
What makes it even funnier is that the organizers had no idea who was among their runners. SUGA didn't ask for special treatment or give them a heads-up he was coming. He showed up in the official results under his own name, Min Yoongi, and organizers only found out afterward that one of the more than 20,000 participants had been a BTS member. Bay to Breakers' vice president later said that if they'd known, they would have offered him VIP treatment, but that their impression was he simply wanted to show up and run like everyone else.
And it wasn't exactly an easy morning jog either. SUGA finished the 12 kilometers in 1 hour, 4 minutes, and 43 seconds, averaging around 5 minutes and 24 seconds per kilometer. He placed 1,022nd out of 20,530 runners, putting him among roughly the fastest five percent of participants. Interestingly, his pace didn't drop after the famous Hayes Hill climb, according to the race's timing data, he actually sped up after it.
All of this happened between two stadium concerts. Fans noticed during the May 17 show that SUGA occasionally moved more carefully than usual, but the reason wasn't known at the time. It was only once word got out about what he'd been doing that morning that the pieces of the story started coming together.
The members talked about his running during the Weverse Live after the final Stanford show too. RM revealed that SUGA regularly runs around ten kilometers, while Jimin summed up his approach pretty well: once he gets interested in something, he goes all the way. So what looked to the fandom like a completely random side quest turned out to be an extension of a hobby he was already taking seriously.
SUGA also had a small camera mounted on his cap during the race, which immediately raised the question of whether he was filming his San Francisco morning for future BTS content. Photos and footage from the race only spread online after the fact, once people realized who they'd actually seen among the thousands of runners.
That might be the best part of the whole story. With no announcement, no organizer escort, and no special treatment, SUGA simply lined up at the start with everyone else one morning, finished 12 kilometers among the fastest five percent, headed back to Stanford, and played a BTS concert a few hours later. A completely ordinary Sunday, apparently.
