Jin and V's backstage fight: the moment BTS chose to show ARMY

Over the years, BTS has often talked about how the members, like any group of people who spend that much time together, sometimes get into fights. One such moment was later shown with little embellishment in the documentary series Burn the Stage. It happened in 2017, right before a concert in São Paulo, when Jin and V clashed just minutes before walking out to the crowd.

The problem started during the final preparations for the concert. The members were discussing the spacing between their positions on stage, and V was trying to fix a gap that had opened up too wide between RM and Jungkook. The change affected Jin's movement too, so V told him he needed to get to his position faster. Jin replied that he was already moving as fast as he could, and that it wasn't as simple as just speeding up without it affecting the rest of the performance.

What started as a conversation about a few steps quickly turned personal. V was frustrated because he was trying to solve a problem right before the show, while Jin was bothered by the way V spoke to him. Age hierarchy carries more weight in Korean culture than we're used to here, and Jin, as the oldest member, said openly that he felt hurt because a younger member had addressed him in a way he experienced as disrespectful.

It was almost the worst possible moment for an argument. With only a few minutes left before they had to walk on stage, V was in tears, Jin was upset, and the concert had to start. RM stepped in and tried to calm things down, reminding them that the audience was waiting outside and that the conversation would have to continue later. Whatever had just happened backstage, they went out and played the show.

The cameras kept rolling after the performance too. Instead of simply letting the incident go unspoken, the members gathered in a hotel room and talked through what had happened. Jin explained why V's way of communicating had hurt him, but also admitted that he sometimes deliberately blurs the line between himself as the oldest member and the younger ones, because he wants them to feel comfortable around him. The problem comes when that line gets blurred so much that it's no longer clear where friendly teasing ends and something that can actually hurt the other person begins.

V apologized to Jin, but the conversation didn't end with pinning the blame on one person. Jin also acknowledged his own share of responsibility, and the other members joined the conversation too. That part of the footage might actually be more interesting than the fight itself. They didn't always agree, but they learned they couldn't just leave problems behind and move on as if nothing had happened.

ARMY didn't see this moment until 2018, when the fourth episode of Burn the Stage was released. The scene has stuck in people's memories especially because it showed something rarely seen in idol group content at the time: real tension between members, tears right before a performance, and a conversation afterward. It didn't show a perfect group that never fights, it showed seven people who have to find a way to function together even when they're tired, under pressure, and angry at each other.

That's what makes it interesting to look back at Jin and V years later. During Jin's 2026 concerts, V joined him on stage, and together with Jimin they performed Spring Day. V teared up during the performance, Jin hugged him, and the crowd sang along with them on one of BTS's most emotional songs. It wasn't some belated resolution of the 2017 fight, that had already been settled the same night, but a beautiful glimpse of a relationship that now carries almost another decade of shared experience behind it.

Maybe that's exactly why the scene from Burn the Stage has stayed so memorable. Not because Jin and V fought, but because it showed what happens after a fight. BTS isn't seven people who never get angry at each other. Part of their story is that, over the years, they've learned to sit down together, say what hurt them, apologize, and keep going.
