BTS played dress-up in the lyric video for the Korean version of NORMAL

BTS could have shot a completely slick lyric video for the Korean version of NORMAL, lyrics over a pretty background, and called it a day. Instead they decided to have fun with it, and each member picked up a little role of their own, which is exactly why it's impossible not to love them for it.

So we're all on the same page: the whole concept is set the morning after a party, cutting between the previous night's loud celebration and the quiet that comes the next day. Within that frame, the "roles" the members are playing make sense, since each of them is showing the aftermath of that night, in their own way.

The one everyone's talking about most is Taehyung, better known as V. He took on the role of the tipsy one and went all in, leaning out the window, crawling on the floor, acting like his world is falling apart. You can tell he's enjoying himself and doesn't mind looking ridiculous, probably precisely to make the others laugh, and that total commitment to the bit has long been his trademark.

Opposite him is Suga, who sits dead center in frame and doesn't move an inch while everything falls apart around him. That indifference in the middle of chaos is so classically Suga that it's funny on its own. He steals the scene without lifting a finger.

RM nearly breaks down a door at one point, while Jimin laughs through practically the entire video and just can't hold it together. That laughter is actually the most important part, since it's clearly real, not acted, so you can immediately tell they're genuinely having fun. That's what makes a video like this feel like you're watching a group of friends, not the biggest band in the world.

No wonder the fandom's reaction was a wave of laughter. The video pokes so much fun at itself that many immediately dubbed it a comedy, and scenes like the one where the members find themselves in the bathroom even sparked a joking fandom concept about a separate "bathroom" universe of BTS, tying this video back to old variety-show sketches.

And there's a small irony hiding inside all that playfulness that makes the whole thing even nicer. NORMAL, the song the video accompanies, is one of the most personal tracks on the album Arirang. It was written with producer Ryan Tedder and is about the surreality of fame and the longing for an ordinary, simple life. At one point the lyrics talk about wanting to just "switch off" for a moment and escape everything, even playing with the band's old name. Seen in that light, a giddy lyric video like this feels like their way of taking a heavy topic with a smile, as if they're saying the "normal," ordinary stuff is actually best found in laughing together with friends.

And that's the charm of it. Their personalities are so distinct that you can guess in advance who's going to do what, so a lyric video that was supposed to be a minor extra turns out to be unexpectedly entertaining. For a band this big, still letting themselves be this playful is rare, and refreshing.
